(Photo: pixabay) Aromatic and medicinal plants in the Alpine region occur at almost all altitudes and soil types. The plant families are also diverse. Most are wild-growing plants that have been cultivated to varying degrees by growers and collectors.
In addition to the wild-growing species that are (or can be) used as aromatic and medicinal plants, varieties have been bred from originally Mediterranean species or adapted to the respective Alpine climate over a long period of time.
Phytotherapy is gaining in importance. Therefore, research into constituents, varieties, and species is being intensified.
